April 1, 2018 - A treat to try this so early in its life. Having had the 2014 edition not long ago, I was struck by how much more old school/french this vintage tasted. A really wonderful nose of black cherries, menthol, tobacco leaf, iron and spring flowers. Initially this had a bit of jam, but that went away after a couple hours in the decanter. Showing a ton of complexity, really exceptional balance and that amazing texture I always get from Scarecrow in a good vintage. No hard edges, nice blue and black fruit, full bodied and nuanced, this finishes very long and pure. Very young to be pulling this out, but with enough air it still delights.
