April 15, 2018 - As someone else mentioned, this wine (and for that matter, all the R. Lopez wines) are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s old school tradition in a bottle, but for me and mine, that’s exactly what we’re looking for.
This wine is simply amazing. Opened, the nose was dominated by fresh-sliced mushrooms, but that quickly dissipated, giving way to notes of wood, herbs, forest floor and fruit. The delightful palate was all that with more fruit, cherry specifically. The finish is not terribly long or complex. Tannins are quite soft and mild.
For a decade-old wine, the Cubillo still comes across as fresh, yet developed and ready. More accessible perhaps than the Tondonia, I still find it almost humorous that this wine, labeled “Crianza,” is as old as most Gran Reservas you see in the wine shop. LdH just does things differently than everyone else, and I love them for it.2 people found this helpful 2,387 views
