June 26, 2018 - For me this is the best vintage of Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée, and that includes the 2003. The wine is on steroids! The purple color is impenetrably dark. The nose is effusive with sweet fruit, rosemary, thyme, lavender and funk. And the depth of black plum, espresso, licorice, mushroom, soil and bacon fat flavors is off the chart. A nervy, lip-smacking acidity spreads out and delineates these flavors. The finish lasts nearly a minute. The tannins are a bit too assertive at the moment but will soften in a few years. While there is room to improve, this powerhouse is already thrilling to drink. 97+++ points.
