Community Tasting Note

  • Matthesen Likes this wine: 92 points

July 21, 2018 - Purchased many years ago from Winebid. Cork in excellent shape and fill was high. Decanted.

Good color -- garnet with good saturation to the rim.
Nose of cassis, blackberry, cigar box, and a bit herbal (but not vegatal)
Palate shows a strong backbone of tannin and acid -- seems much younger than its 33 years. There is fruit there, but restrained. Nice mineral note. Much more Bordeaux than Napa in texture and taste. Decanted, but still quite tight. Good classical wine, but more structure than seduction. I like the 1994 more -- seems to be another Quilceda that isn't ready.
