August 22, 2018 - Tasted blind. Medium (+) ruby with purple hues. The nose is a little closed at first, and becomes quite more expressive after a couple of hours, with aromas of black fruit, plum, herbs, neutral oak spice and cheese rind. The palate is dry, tight, tart, with medium (+) acidity, tannins and alcohol (13.5%). The palate is consistent with the nose, with medium intensity and length, with a slightly bitter licorice and herbal finish. This is clearly a cool to moderate climate, Old World wine. The relative youthfulness of the color, nose and palate (and the lack of obvious Cabernet markers) threw me off track and made me think of a Barbera. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, aged 12 months in oak of which 33% new. Rated 90 now, with good upside potential. In hindsight, this wine could use at least another year of aging and could probably last for a decade beyond that.
