August 24, 2018 - The color is deep cherry red with an opaque center. The nose is filled with ripe red fruit, flowers, garrigue, coffee, pepper and bacon aromas. Full-bodied and nearly thick in the mouth with gushing flavors of strawberry, raspberry, fig, licorice, mushroom and iron mineral. Despite this weight and dense texture, there is ample underlying acidity to keep everything very fresh, buoyant and energetic. The acidity also provides tremendous clarity and precision of flavor from the mid-palate all the way through the long climbing finish. And the huge tannins are sweet, silky, and most remarkably, beautifully integrated. For such a huge young wine, the overall balance is well-nigh perfect. While already amazing it has two decades of development ahead. An absolute stunner! 99+ points.
