September 23, 2018 - We've had many bottles over many vintages of what is usually a stellar Rhone wine blend (OK, it's Languedoc, but they are Rhone varietals). This one tasted a little "off" both the first and second night, so I am thinking it might be a slightly-flawed bottle or lesser vintage year. Have another bottle, so we will give it another try. Normally, this is a 88-90 for us and goes well with food, this one fell short...no depth, hard to pick out the varietals, a bit flat, maybe old? Again, we'll try another bottle.

10/4/18, 11:11 PM - Might I suggest marking it NR if you think the bottle was bad. Your low score skews the overall score for this wine - shouldn't a score of 84 generally mean vinegary undrinkable?

10/9/18, 5:20 PM - Here is the scoring guide Eric LeVine and company put together:

My score for this wine is well within the "good" category and I could not say the wine was flawed or too old. An 84 gives it the benefit of the doubt. My personal opinion is too many people do not adhere to Eric's rating scale...5+ years back that was not the case. I find CellarTracker less reliable than in years past unless there are a LOT of entries.

10/9/18, 5:40 PM - Thanks for the explanation - I had not seen thee rating system set up by Eric before, so that is helpful. It is different than, say, the RP or Vinous systems which are quite similar to each other.

10/9/18, 5:44 PM - Actually, when I saw the rating system next to Wine Spec and Parker, I realized I am not scoring some wines high enough and some low enough.
I printed the rating scale for future use.

I use the CellarTracker app, which comes with a barcode scanner to access the reviews, when I am out wine shopping. I still find CellarTracker to be a much better predictor of whether it is a good wine or not compared with wine mags and such. Good discussion!
