October 7, 2018 - (Decanted for one hour.) So far I have gone through a case of this wonderful wine, and what a ride it has been! On this occasion I tasted it alongside the massive 2016 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes. Both are clearly outstanding wines, but in the end the 2010 comes out ahead. (For the time being, anyway.) Its perfumed nose is dominated by ripe strawberry and blackberry, garrigue, espresso, truffle and lapsang souchong tea. While full bodied and densely textured, it is remarkably light and nimble on the mid-palate with energetic flavors of strawberry and blackberry jam, ripe black plum, tapenade, Asian spices and mushroom. The ripe, fine-grained tannins perfectly frame the long, sweet and expanding finish. Showing growing complexity and nascent maturity, the wine is powerfully built, profoundly deep and breathtakingly long. Amazing!
