November 3, 2018 - Balanced and powerful nose with ripe red fruit together with some dark fruit, some pepper and garrigue (dried herbs), and some tar. Medium+ body with ripe red and some dark fruits, some sweetness of fruit and fine purity in the fruit notes, pepper and other spices, hints of alcohol and some pleasantly "rough" notes, some tannin that is well integrated in the fruit, and an aftertaste with berries and spices. Drinks well now but will develop further, 91 pts.

This vintage is very good and surprisingly "non-funky" for being a Chateau Musar. Stylistically, this could have been a good southern Rhône wine with its alcohol level in check. As this vintage was released late (out of order, after 2007-2009), I had expected it to be more closed or tannic, but in my opinion, this drinks beautifully now.
