January 3, 2019 - Bright yellow colour. Nose with ripe yellow fruit, citrus including zest, slate, some petrol notes and hints of vanilla. Just a touch of residual sugar (it comes across as just slightly above the trocken limit), fine concentration of fruit, citrus, green apples, hints of pepper and other spices, some mineral notes (both slate and chalk?), good acidity, and a long a fruity aftertaste. Drinks quite well now, but nowhere near "tired", 91 pts.
This wine is much less developed than I had expected for a 2007. Given that typical Spätlesen tend to be more long-lived than GGs, it might be the residual sugar that explains this, if this bottle is representative. If so, this wine may still drink well at 20.
The -R- is basically a fineherb (i.e. off-dry/off-dryish) wine, but not labelled so, produced from GG quality grapes. In this vintage it's 12.5% alcohol.1,025 views
