Community Tasting Note

January 18, 2019 - Not going to assign a score to this wine because I do not believe I had an accurate tasting. Brought this wine to a steakhouse in NYC. Had a series of wines that night - 2008 Buccella Katrina Eileen Cuvee and a 2006 Dancing Hares, some really big powerful wines.

Drank those first, so I believe my rating would be skewed, but this wine tasted hot, flat, and shut down. All I got on the palate was alcohol, oak, and more alcohol. This was probably due to have the Buccella right before which just blew me away.

Hoping that my assessment was off that night and will revisit my other bottle soon.

1/21/19, 8:57 AM - Just curious - what has your typical experience been with MH? I haven't had it before, but I am holding 2 bottles in my cellar.

1/21/19, 9:21 AM - This was my first experience with Mercury Head. The MH doesn't taste any different then Papillon, or any of his other wines for that matter. I wrote a review of Papillon and had a similar experience. Nothing memorable at all, just a big powerful alcohol punch.

I was so looking forward to having this, but all I could taste was alcohol. There is no finesse, no elegance, no finish - just all alcohol, it dominates the palate and nose. I unfortunately have 3 more bottles of this in my cellar, not really looking forward to having them unfortunately.
