February 17, 2019 - My first Tignanello. Decanted 2 hours before tasting. Clear, youthful ruby in the glass. Nose of cassis, graphite, white pepper, just a hint of barnyard. Young, round, and buoyant on the palate, red and black plum, licorice, some pie spice. Notably long finish, tannins more integrated than I would have expected given the youth, but this will still be quite a bit better after another 5 years. The 25% cab is really prevalent, to the extent that I'm not sure I would have called out the sangiovese if I'd tasted it blind. Lovely wine, but IMO there's much better value out there if you're willing to part with the brand name.
