Community Tasting Note

March 7, 2019 - To me, this is rated about a 95 (with a three hour decant). But the potential here is for much more with time in the cellar.

After a two hour decant with vigorous aeration, this was still showing a lot of "heat". An hour later, and much of the alcohol nose and finish was gone, replaced by a balanced, concentrated and plush wine.

Typical LPV notes- blackberry, crushed rock, blueberry, etc. Other TN's can give more detailed descriptors. Never been my thing, probably will never have the ability to decipher the individual components. All good, I know when for me a wine is excellent, and while I like this wine, I will most likely love it in 5 years.

If you only have a couple of these, resist the urge to pop the cork. If you have several, take one out for a test drive and put the rest in the back of the cellar for some more ZZZ's

3/7/19, 12:24 PM - Thank you for taking the plunge. Curious if you have the carter 2016 LPV as a comparison. Keep up the hard work!

3/7/19, 2:35 PM - Nice note. I think the LPV from VV is one of the more challenging wines to figure out. I have had it when it showed unbelievably well early, and then just a few days later was totally shut down. Apparently that has been an issue for critics as well. I found the same issue with the Melka made Fairchild Stones 1 that is also from LPV. Hopefully with some years on it that is no longer an issue, because when it's hitting, it is amazingly good.

3/7/19, 2:58 PM - Having only had experience with LPV over the past four years or so, I can safely say that the only producer where every bottle, year in and year out, has been amazing was Benoit's wines at Fait Main.

    He is batting a 100%.

And I trust that VV will sort itself out in the next several years... Until then, plenty of other good juice to drink down...
