April 1, 2019 - Dense - as normal. Perhaps more classical than I expected from Duboković: I have only had some quite "wild" wines from them til now. This vintage is much more restrained albeit massively ripe. None of the overripeness and blousiness that Plavac mali normally has. This is very reminiscent of good Chateauneuf du Pape, with a very similar flavour- and scent-profile: jammy black and red fruit, figs and Mediterranean herbs and a slight earthy mustiness. A certain waft of iodine? Big but balanced. Suggestive that a few years in bottle will be beneficial. Lovely acids. At the moment this is a little bit generic though fine: I would not have guessed Croatian plavac! Tentatively expecting great things in due course, but I don't know how long that course is supposed to be. Not rated for now.
