April 9, 2019 - Decanted for 1.5+hrs. Tasted alongside vougeraie nuits st george clos des thorey and ridge Lytton springs. Secondary characteristics are in full force. Fruit is still in balance with acid and tannins. Nose: tertiary notes; cellar, cobwebs, leather, cigar box.
    Palate: red fruit.
Overall: glad to have another half case to enjoy for the next year or so.

Your description is spot on for the re-releases from this producer from the years of 1986 and 1989....Have not tried the 1990. Have your tried the other years and if yes, which do you like best? Thanks for the cool writeup!

    Cheers,

8/14/19, 5:29 PM - Yes, I have also had the 86; I found the secondary characteristics to be much more pronounced on the 86, having shed more fruit. Lots of musty cellar, cigar box, moldy-cork, and mushroom going on. I would have enjoyed it more with a steak, but I only had a small pour without any food. It was a stark contrast to a young Chateauneuf du Pape I was enjoying at the time. If I had the opportunity, I would have purchased a bottle or 3 of the 86, but the bottle on premises was just a sample. It would be fun to have it side by side with the 90 for a vertical. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the 90, as I enjoyed the stronger fruit character. The 86 was still a delicious drink, and I would be happy to drink it :) Cheers!
