2014 Joseph Swan Vineyards, Cuvee de Trois (Russian River Valley, California) - 90 Points
Clean ripe fruit nose with red cherry and some herbal aromas, starting to develop some tertiary notes.
Medium bodied, very supple and balanced. The alcohol and modest acidity make it feel rather full instead of delicate and juicy. Overall, enjoyable and classy with a medium length. My favourite of the two wines because of it fuller, less acidic character and precise nose but that is entirely a personal preference. Starting to develop tertiary aromas so could benefit from further cellaring.
2015 Lemelson Vineyards, Thea's selection (Willamette Valley, Oregon) - 90 Points
Ripe fruit in the nose with a slightly minty aroma. Not as precise as the Swan. A lighter wine, less dense because of the less alcohol and more structure because of the acidity. Has more tannins (from the oak?) but more importantly feels juicier and more delicate. Very good wine. There is no real quality difference between these two wines, just a different style. Given that the Lemelson is a bit cheaper than the Swan, it is better value for money although both are reasonably priced given the quality level.1,538 views
