May 29, 2019 - Canard Tasting @ Buon Vino, Plano, TX - This is not your grandfather's Zinfandel. Sourced from some of the oldest Zinfandel vines in the Napa Valley which are 125 years old and dry farmed to produce a scant 1/2 to 1 ton per acre, this is a superb example of the variety. Just the opposite of the typical fleshy juice bombs that we often see in the jug version of this grape, this wine is structured with layers of complexity that should continue to evolve or what could be a 15-20 year life. For me it was the class wine of the tasting with seven other offerings from the vintner. Perhaps a small bit of sticker shock at nearly $100 a bottle, but if you appreciate fine Zinfandel, this may be just worth it.
