June 5, 2019 - 2008 Champagne horizontal (Medlar (London)): Having had this wine before twice (and scored 95 & 96) I immediately recognised it. It was by a margin the best wine of the night served so far (clearly a notch above great Dom and Grande Annee) and proved to be the best white champagne when all was said and done. The only champagne beating it for WOTN was a bottle of utterly sublime Cristal rose. Reflecting on this performance in this context I have no other choice but to up my score and go for a 98. The concentration was otherworldly here and people agreed fairly unanimously that this is epic. I am now convinced this is going to be monumental and will have no choice but to purchase more and follow this wines evolution over the next decades. Wow!

That is what I tell my wife when I come across a great bottle—I have no choice but to buy more-my palate demands it. As if it is a law when having a wine cellar.
Good for you for your attitude! You won’t regret it as I am 70 years old and purchased wine with the same attitude—-with no regrets. Currently buying some-not a lot-of Chateau Lafite and Mouton 2018. Heck-I need to live for a good period of time to enjoy them BUT I had to buy them. Grin
Enjoy your Cristal. I have four bottles not sure when to open my first one.

8/5/19, 2:48 AM - Dear Dave - many thanks for your kind note. BTW I too have purchased some Lafite 18, so we really seem to think along the same lines. And if buying those mean your motivation to stay fit and healthy for another 40 years is heightened then I think that is a nice secondary effect. After all we have a lot to live for with all those bottles in the cellar.
On the Cristal 08 if you have not had it I would actually recommend you open one ASAP. There might be a follow-on investment coming on for you though just as a disclaimer ;-)
