August 7, 2008 - So, the deal with Nero d'Avola varietal wines at my house is as follows. We always, without exception, break out a bottle for a particular Sicilian-styled dish of sauteed and roasted (or grill-roasted, it does not matter) chicken, boned but skin-on, with capers, garlic, anchovies, and tomatoes. Needless to say this preparation calls for a wine with some substance and lots of acidity. Once again, a Nero of substance was (luckily) selected, and this ruby quaff earned its tariff. Nice sour cherry nose and berry/sour cherry flavors, medium body with firm acidity. For under $10 I do not think you can go too far wrong with a Nero unless the producer is a complete twit. This one, clearly, is not.
