8/8/19, 6:17 PM - Wow MC2, what a trip!! I just finished reading about it and from an Aussie thankyou for you kind words..

Having the Yarra literally on my back door step I was particularly interested in that region...

I'd say you definitely tried the better BDX producers the Yarra has in Yeringberg, YY and Mount Mary.. I love the Yeringberg BDX.. If you get the chance try the 15 Mount Mary Quintet, I think since Rob Hall left in 2011 and Sam Middleton took the helm as chief winemaker in 2012 there wine has improved dramatically..

I also couldn't agree more on Coldstream Hills.. I haven't bought there wine in years, 2018 wasn't my favourite vintage for Giant Steps either but 2015 and 2017 were really good for me.. There's a lot of buzz for us wine nerds currently with more boutique pinot and syrah producers.. If you get the chance Gembrook Hill, Mayer and Luke Lambert to name are few are doing stunning examples... Gembrook Hill would be my favourite..

    Cheers Parko

8/9/19, 5:07 AM - Wow - thanks so much for your comments. They were super helpful. Yes - we had an amazing time. So many great spots! And really the wines were very impressive. We were traveling with some friends who tend to skew more old world and many of them were surprised by a lot of what we tried. Will keep an eye out for those others although another takeaway I had is much of the best stuff isn't making it to the US so easily.

8/9/19, 5:21 AM - No problem.. You would of noticed we don't tend to get to many US wines either which is a pitty, I enjoyed my trip to Napa and more so Oregon back in 2011. I think unless there's volume the shipping isn't worth the cost and also China has become our major buyer of late, hence Penfolds, Henschke etc etc prices going up by 50% in the last 5 or so years..

8/9/19, 1:49 PM - Ah - that makes more sense. The price jump has been extreme. Esp for those top wines. I'm a sucker for Grange, but hard to make the argument for it as it gets closer to the 4 digit figures.

8/9/19, 2:15 PM - yeah definitely out of my price range and many others now.. Standish has quite a following now and has been a alternative for some but it sounds like 2017 maybe a let down with the feedback I've been getting which is disapointing because 2016 Standish and Lamella were absolute belters.. I guess thats the beauty of region and vintage blending sometimes..

8/10/19, 9:09 AM - We visited there and I think they make some nice wines although the style didn't quite work as well for me. It's more full octane than I expected. Really enjoyed meeting the folks though as clearly lots of wine knowledge and really nice people.
