10/10/2016 - SOTERIOLOGIST favorite WROTE: 89 Points
Tried it again from a particularly good bottle of a friend. Lemon/bergamotte, vanilla and peat, but a tad too sweet, clearly ex-bourbon dominated. In direct comparison actually preferred the Bowmore 12 due to its greater, sherry influenced depth.

On 12/20/2014 I am directly comparing this to the
Laphroaig 10
tasting in turns as I write this.
Glass: not amber but golden (this is a + !), perhaps like a Chardonnay, as befits a 10 y.o. non-colored Whisky which I think it is.
Nose: Light and clear, citrusy and with vanilla, but somewhat shy. The Laphroaig 10 is a bit oakier, drier and has more character, fullness and weight on the nose. But here with the Ardbeg you might almost think you are smelling a grappa.
Palate: noticeable distillery-bite on the tip of the tongue initially, but then the citrus, iodine, and in the length considerable saltiness. The very ash-like peat accompanies the whole trajectory until it finally gives way to the mostly lemony sweetness.
Yes quality, but between the two, it's the Laphroaig 10.
