August 3, 2019 - Rich ruby core with medium optical density and a slightly amber rim. Very high specular reflectivity. Rich aromas of cherry, juicy tobacco, balsamic and herbal spices along with ripe olive and gravel. Medium bodied on the palate with good acidity and integrated tannins. Elegant framework that is open-pored for flavours, but not thick and dense with cooked fruits- very nice. Allows the wine to shine. Flavours of red fruits on the attack, with herbal support. Cherry and tobacco leaf on top of other red fruits, but blended together. Nice intensity, but not a slam in the face- more elegant. The midpalate is spicy and maintains the fruit, brining on a host of interesting forest floor and mushroom flavours. Things climb uphill the whole way here. intensity and complexity builds. The finish is a flourish of gravel and light tar along with some green olive and balsamic, and lingers for a really long finish. Elegant intensity here throughout allows the wine to show some evolving complexity, and provides for a thoughtful and tactful wine.

This is a very nice bottle of BdM, with a traditional character and a touch of age. Drinking very nicely, with plenty of freshness, but a knit-together wine at this point with some definite vinous flair. Still seems like it could evolve though. Graceful and delicious, this is just a spot-on well-made and enjoyable wine.
