September 28, 2019 - Dark ruby with high optical density and high specular reflectivity. Medium intensity of straight-ahead aromas, with strawberry, dark cherry, light dusty florals and gravel, and a touch of herbal savory, spicy pepper. On the palate, medium acidity, medium to full body, fine-grained tannins, and a texture that is open, but with a bit of grip. Dances across the palate, but without much tension or electricity. Flavours of light strawberry and tart darker black raspberry on the attack. Herbal and floral notes kick on at midpalate. Simple, and medium complexity, with good intensity of flavours. Finishes with green pepper and spicy charred black pepper. Medium minus length.

This is a nice and controlled red wine with a dry and commanding presence. Depth is not canyon level, more like a swift, waist-deep cool river. Sort of flows by to provide more interest, but the flavours stay in swift running lines. Really nice to find a Rhone wine with controlled EtOH, that is well balanced. While not being super ripe, this avoids excessive pyrazine content; it adds a zesty interest without distracting from the wine. Good for a big dry red occasion, but not a candy bomb in any way.
