September 29, 2019 - 2013 Yangarra Estate Shiraz McLaren Vale was robust and evolving. The Australian Shiraz was opaque deep purple in colour with lots of sediments, showing aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, violets and black pepper, followed by undertones of ginger flowers, bacon fat, cured meat and barnyard funk. It was full-bodied, with nice medium acidity to complement. The high level of bold and grippy tannin made it difficult to enjoy right now. It left a medum-long finish of dark cherries, coffee and dried violets flavours.
This McLaren Vale Shiraz was aromatically lifted, for the slightly cooler climate at Yangarra Estate with the use of 50% whole berries and 20% whole bunches in fermentation. The use of oak was modest with 20% new, and 80% used French oak. It would be interesting to revisit this tannic beast in five years of time.

10/1/19, 1:50 AM - Great review well done, am slightly surprised with the high tannin after this period, will take your advice and wait a few years before opening any.

10/1/19, 1:09 PM - Bsmith457, thanks for your comment. Everyone's tolerance with tannin is different. It was surprising to me that given the loads of sediments this wine had thrown out over these years, it was still very firm and bold in tannin.
