October 4, 2019 - Dark red with a bit of brownish tinge, medium plus optical density and medium plus specular reflectance. Strong, intense, and appealing aromas of cherry, aromatic florals, light clean meadow earth, and tart raspberry and perhaps some tree fruits. With some air, aromas of demerara roasted over spiced sweet squash. Very nice complexity on the nose. Vibrant acidity on the palate with medium body, creating a dancing and nearly electrical sensation of tension and grace. Tannins are soft, and the texture is of polished elegance, but with enough structure to hold up and spread out the flavours. The attack leads off with red fruits (bright cherry and raspberry) and light spices. The midpalate is perhaps more complex in the fruit; still berries and red fruits, but with a sense of mixed savoury flavours that add some interest. Aromatic florals come on with the spices, and the final transition brings on a tart clay and spice mixture that is nice. Finish is medium minus in length. Intensity is nice, and complexity is okay- not stunning, but definitely a bunch going on here.

This is just fun, delicious, NZ PN. Very typical of the region and variety, and separate from that, a great red wine for a wide range of occasions. Easy to drink on its own, and delightfully refreshing with food. Not overly sweet and in general very well balanced, this is awesome. Complexity is perhaps the only thing wanting here, but at this price point, it does certainly over-deliver. Well made PN, and great value.
