October 13, 2019 - Pop and pour. Super dark and deep and rich maroon. Coats the glass when swirled. Nose is almost jammy but not quite. Black raspberry, black currant, kirsch, eucalyptus and iodine. Wow! Very full bodied. First taste is all about the Shiraz. Big, black and bold fruit flavours. Very ripe and in your face. Then comes the Cab with black currant and a bit of acidity to cut through the richness. Mouth coating richness. Very hedonistic! Long lingering finish that still has a tannic bite and comes across as dry. Full on Aussie fruit bomb that is delicious on it's own as a sipper, but would be hard to pair with anything but hunks of BBQ meat.

10/14/19, 8:25 AM - KFrench150, great note, thanks! We LOVE 389 with rich red-sauce pasta dishes too! Some crushed red peppers in there and this is one of THE best combinations we've enjoyed in the wine world.

If you haven't yet, try Stags Leap Artemis with your steak... Wow!

    Noroc!

10/15/19, 5:07 PM - BOTH of you, *thank* you for the food pairing ideas! [Interestingly, I *almost* pulled 1 of mine for our Sun BBQ, but went with a '12 Elderton Single Vyd "Command" Shiraz instead.] ;)

10/15/19, 6:18 PM - Love the Command! How was the 12?

10/15/19, 6:38 PM - kfrench150, I found the '12 Command drinking more elegantly than I'd have predicted, so wasn't the BEST match for our BBQ. [I'll *try* to post a TN 'fore the weekend.]

10/15/19, 9:25 PM - Y'all talking about Elderton Command, we know nothing of it, another can't wait to try, now... THANKS!

As far as these BBQ & steak and meat comments, we truly do love the SL Artemis as mentioned, but as far as Penfolds, here's a comment from one of our RWT reviews...

"...RWT offered a more smoky, dusty, grainy opening than others... As we read more CT notes regarding the nose: (“…not the fruit kind…” “spicy, herbal notes…” “smoked meat in the nose” “leather with minerality” “tobacco, cigar, wet earth”...)..."

That sounds like a helluva balance to a strong beef cut to us!

    Enjoy, good people!

But Bin 389 to us is more buttery, silky, smoother than RWT... That's why we LOVE 389 with pesto, toasted baguette, red-sauce pasta and a hint of Italian spice.

    Just Glorious!

Are either of you John Duval fans? We love his Entity and Plexus. We just grabbed a Mollydooker 2007 Velvet Glove for the cellar too. We enjoy its Boxer.

    Noroc!!! Viaţă este bun.

(Beef.?. We just watched the trailer for the new film Game Changers...) Hmmm...
