October 14, 2019 - What a beautiful bottle of wine here; I'm really loving it tonight, and a perfect pairing for our ropa vieja which had been sitting and developing flavors for a few days now, so this was a real treat all around.

Medium garnet color with some transparency. Gorgeous aromatics from the pop and developing in the glass, showing notes of red and transitioning to dark and dark red fruits, cedar, flowers, dill initially and then fading, clove, licorice, orange peel, lemon, vanilla, potpourri, and a bit of earthy funk. Fantastic. Medium body and acid, medium (+) finish, with flavors of cherry, raspberry, bitter red apple skin, lemon, black tea, clove, and an herbal hint. This is incredible. It's drinking great right now but I think it could age at least 2-5 more years as well, and with 2 more of this vintage in holding, I think I'll give the next a few more years and see what happens. I gotta give it up, 95 pts. for me.

10/14/19, 6:05 PM - I have had the pleasure of tasting older La Rioja Alta wines dating back to the 1960s and I can tell you from experience that the 2004 should be a long lived wine. It has so much going on it for and will be something to behold in 10 to 20 years. Grab a few more if you can. Cheers.

10/15/19, 7:12 AM - Good to hear. I also have some '07s as well, which is my anniversary year, and a I splurged on a few 890s from '01, so I should have some pretty good longevity. Also had an '04 Ardanza earlier in the week, which was not quite at the same level as this wine, but also very, very nice. I'm a fan.

BTW, looks like we are neighbors (I'm in Maplewood)—small world!
