November 10, 2019 - Had a small gamble when buying this bottle ... terrible dirty label, but level still very good.
Popped the cork this afternoon, no oxidation, no cork taint, so that was a nice start.
+ Preparation : as with older bottles, set bottle up for at least one full day. Pop and pour, no decant
+ Colour : seemed quite light in bottle, but still much red ( rustic red/brown brick ) in the glass
+ Nose : initially assumed this was a Loire wine ( had some crazy Cab.Franc vibes ), dimmed & dried red fruits.
Furthermore some nutmeg, dried herbs, apothecary, just that type of wine you could just sniff and not drink.
+ Taste : slightly disappointing against the nose, but it gained some weight throughout the afternoon.
It tasted somewhat tired, but not dead. Mainly dried red fruits, some vanilla pudding / custard.
+ Finish : quite short, again tired but not dead. I guess much more explosive 10-20 years ago.
We both agreed, the wine was much past its peak, but there was still some life in the bottle.
Should say drink now, but if you like your Bordeaux old, guess you can still hold if wanted.
