November 14, 2019 - Paired 1992 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre v. 1992 Coche Dury Meursault Les Rougeots

The Lafon was tighter than the Coche and initially had a more reserved nose of fresh tropical fruit while the buttered popcorn nose on the Coche wafted from the glass. The palate on the Coche was a little flabby relative to Lafon which seemed leaner and fresher though less opulent and supple. In some respects these two wines switched personalities places in this vintage. Setting the popcorn nose aside the Lafon was the leaner more mineral driven wine and the Coche more opulent and fat. Both wines are fully mature and unlikely to improve. Personally I liked the Lafon slightly better, but the Coche’s opulence stole the groups heart.
