November 14, 2019 - Most impressive showing yet for the 2014 vintage of Tablas Creek's big and often complex white wine. The ripe tree fruit flavors (pear, nectarine, peach), vanilla custard, and butterscotch characteristic of Roussanne can push this blend in a direction of heaviness that have not always appealed to me in older vintages.

However, since 2013 the Esprit Blanc has come across as fresher and less ponderous. At 13.5% abv the 2014 is the sole vintage since 2013 technically on the riper side (all the others are at 13.0% abv), but it still comes across more as a sleek yacht than the QE2, elegant but with some crisp fruit and mineral in play to refresh the palate. For my palate, the 2014 might be best in its youth, over the next few years.
