November 22, 2019 - Laid in chalk in 2013 and disgorged in 2018 so probably based on the 2012 vintage and 4-5 years development on the lees. Different vintage but note consistent with previous bottles. You can see the consistent house style. Latest purchase, which I won’t touch for a year, has only 3 years ageing on the lees, which does concern me. Would be a shame to see a change in style.

The wine is clear and medium gold in colour with bubbles.
The nose is clean with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus (lemon, lemon curd), green fruit (baked apple, pear), autolysis (biscuit, dough), tertiary (nuts, smoke, mushroom). The wine is fully developed.
The palate is of dry with high acidity, medium alcohol (12%), medium (+) body, pronounced intensity flavours of lemon, baked apple, pear, biscuit, nuts, smoke. The mousse is creamy. The finish is long.
The wine is outstanding quality. The wine has great concentration of flavours and has pronounced autolytic character due to the length of time spent on the lees. Drinking beautifully now.

11/23/19, 10:42 AM - The ageing on lees vary a lot for same edition. I have the 2008 base in both a 2014 disgorged version and a 2017! But you're right, only 3 years on lees is absolutely unusually short time for a Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve.
