December 6, 2019 - I love these wines when they are a little fuller mid palate than this wine at present, as they take me back to the richer Doug Elliot Belford of the 70’s. Pale straw in colour., and wet straw and lime juice on the nose but it is so undeveloped. More grassy on the palate with some lime zest and lemons on the finish. In an awkward phase right now. The vineyard and the vintage will shine, it just needs more time. If you have it leave it and try again in 2023 as looks like a slow developer.

12/7/19, 2:50 AM - great note Geoff on the Tyrrell's Belford. I also remember the old Elliott's Belford's, called HV Riesling from memory.

1/12/20, 5:00 PM - The old Belford semillons (in riesling bottles and named as Hunter Riesling), were typical of the older broader white burgundy style. They often threw tartaric crystals after a few years in bottle. I can still recall a local woman sitting outside the winery door on a chair with her hair in rollers waiting for the Saturday morning customers to arrive for a tasting. You could also buy Elliott's Wines from a their wine bar/shop in town in the late 1960s and to mid 1970s. I even had a case shipped to the Redfern railway goods station where you could pick up your order. How times have changed!
