January 8, 2020 - Close to perfect. Nose is insane, complex, with subtle toast, touch of sweet fruit.
Flavors are gorgeous classic. Beautiful dark red fruit, supple tannins, super long finish showing dry herbs. Shows solid structure, a great candidate for long aging.

1/9/20, 6:19 AM - Never had Spottswoode before but heard that it's better to drink after years of cellaring, maybe 10± years. Your note suggested that the '16 is ready now.

1/19/20, 7:34 AM - To follow up what AlexHop wrote, Spottswoode wines can cellar for decades, but depending on the vintage, some can be enjoyed younger. I have 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 in my cellar and they all have different characteristics. From what I’ve tasted so far, 2016 Napa is drinking well young across the board.

5/31/20, 2:01 PM - @fredericowines: May I throw in my $.02? I'm generally *extremely* reluctant to drink top shelf CA cabs young, then pretty much never without a lot of air, but someone brought this over last night and we drank it as a PnP and it was fabulous, certainly one of the best wines I've ever had. Assuming that this wine doesn't go into a "dumb" phase at some point, it certainly has the structure to drink spectacularly for a long time and could even improve, but you will certainly not be disrespecting the wine if you drink it now (especially if you have more than one bottle).
