January 12, 2020 - Straight at pour you can tell that quite a lot has happened since last time. Deep yellow and a tiny bit cloudy.
Slightly reductive, dito oxidative. Funky at first, and far from the pure expression of Chardonnay i remember from earlier tastings.
Very mature yellow apples, toffee, caramel, nougat, walnuts, baked and grilled lemon, almond icing. As time goes by in the glass it transforms to something fresher and less funky. You can sense the crisp lemon symphony it possessed in its youth.
I'm not sure what to think of the nose to be honest, perhaps it's not a perfect bottle considering it feels a bit prematured. On the other hand there's no signs of TCA and with air it comes around pretty quick.
The palate is simply stunning. So much apples, various shape and form but still very mature. Mashed even. Got some cider character to it. Superb acidity, perfectly balanced and with perfect bite for my taste. The aftertaste is long, complex with multiple layers. So juicy.
Find it tricky to grade this, the nose is interesting but not in the same ballpark as the palate. If this is a correct representative for how the wine ages, which I doubt it is, drink up!
