February 4, 2020 - Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening Tasting Event in NYC. The wine, his "normale" was poured by Diego Conterno. He positioned his style as enlightened traditional. He tries to clearly express the terroir of his vineyard in the wine through low intervention wine making. He innoculates with native yeasts to better control the fermentation and macerates for a slightly shorter period of time than the traditionalists depending on the vintage. (~30 days?). All aging is done in botte grande. This wine is made from the younger vines from his portion of the Ginestra vineyard. It has great, light to medium bodied texture and good tension and structure along with the characteristic flavors of cherry, rose petals and truffles. A very engaging and attractive wine with a long finish and the ability to age well for 20 years or so.
