February 8, 2020 - Very good Chardonnay emerging from Umbria ! Critical to let this white warm a bit from cold storage (48 degrees). On initial pour/taste the wine was quite non descript, insipid, and watery. After about 20 minutes at room temperature, this wine really started to blossom. Reinforces my experience that even 1-2 degrees of temp variation can make huge differences in wine perception.

Scents of acacia flower, vanilla bean, and shaved ginger root left a nice olfactory impression. Tart citrus, guava, and ginger shavings on the palate. Not a long or complex finish, but highly enjoyable. Does this drink like a premier Cru Meursault or single vineyard Aubert ? Of course not... but at $17 this is a splendid Chardonnay. Anyone with deep pockets can drink great vino; but one of the interesting aspects of the wine game is discovering hidden gems at a great price point.

Paired with a Turkish ezme salad of cucumbers, onion, tomatoe, and chopped walnut with charcoal grilled Branzino. A delicious pairing with the fish !

2/8/20, 6:07 PM - Couldn't agree more. This is a gem from Costco for $17. I equate it with a bit thinner version of Hamilton Russell for half the price.
