February 20, 2020 - Tasted blind. Sweet tobacco and other aging aromas, ripe and intense fruit showing red and blue berries. First impression already incredibly sexy instantly reminding me of a Beckstoffer vineyard in Napa (hence 0 points for me here in the tasting). Great intensity, tension and balance – but with a surprisingly abrupt finish. This was paired against VCC 2015 and in this comparison the 2009 came across somewhat heavy-handed.

2/20/20, 3:14 PM - Thanks for the note- how do you feel this will develop over time. When we were there in ‘18, he said this was a sexy beast vs the ‘10 which allowed for the guilty pleasure and would continue to develop. What do you think?

2/20/20, 10:31 PM - Ah would love to visit VCC one day as well - It's just brilliant what they're doing. But my experience with VCC is limited. Only had 2001, 2009 and 2015 so far. I have no doubt that the 2009 has easily 10+ years left to evolve before peaking, but as a vintage it would appear that it is only a question of time before 2010 will surpass 2009. If your cellar is well equipped enough, I would start enjoying the 2009 now and hold back for a while with the 2010.

They are really good people and 100% worth the visit.

2/21/20, 8:03 AM - Sirpat007-I'm slowly building a library of this wine for the next decade. I'm also buying the La Gravette de Certan. Are you familiar with the second label? Wondering your thoughts.

2/22/20, 9:29 AM - MJP - WS included the 2017 VCC in a WS article as a top 4 Bordeaux this vintage (98 score). Spoke to Michel today and he said a second article is coming out in days. He has a few cases available at $220, but he thinks it will be gone very soon. Given your note re. VCC and your cellar, I thought I’d pass on the info.

2/24/20, 10:22 PM - Never had the second label... But to be honest I tend to ignore second labels. I find them usually too pricey for what they offer. I'd rather buy a first label of "cheaper" wine in the same price range. But there are always exceptions of course...
