March 6, 2020 - The Verticals Tasting at 2020 La Paulée de New York (Eventi Hotel, New York): Some browning at the edge-strange. Quite a bit of stalky green. Lighter than the 2013. Very good acidity, not very silky feel, and dry finish. Wow, if this is indicative of where this wine is, it has fallen apart precipitously and much too early. So unexpected that I retasted a second bottle which was sweeter and had more sap, but I'm not entirely reassured. Maybe the first bottle was a dud-one can only hope.

3/7/20, 9:17 PM - JM Fourrier era has yet to be proven to be a source of long lived wines. The attraction of the wines in their youth may be why they may not be long loved wines....? YMMV.

3/8/20, 7:40 AM - WEB-This is an ominous observation, but one that makes sense to me. Completely unacceptable situation if one is paying upwards of $400 for a Clos St. Jacques (I am not!), but the premium for early pleasure may make more sense at the price point for the AC Gevrey VV if you enjoy this style.

3/8/20, 9:12 AM - Honestly, I am merely suggesting an explanation and not intending to imply a definitive explanation. Personally, I am not as smitten with Fourrier as many others. There is no denying the sensuality, purity, and elegance of the wines in their youth, and at their best. However, in the same breath, Fourrier style is seemingly the antithesis of Gevrey and can arguably lack the guts wines need to endure. In turn, I have yet to experience, or read, many rave reviews of Fourrier wines at 15+ years. YMMV.
