March 9, 2020 - Blackish purple red in color with a nose of dark brambly fruit with some greenish elements, cedar, slight menthol and brown sugar with a very mild touch of oak. The palate is medium-bodied, still quite young at this juncture, dry despite the impression of sweetness on the nose, a touch of residual alcohol, very silk and creamy in texture but a bit too diluted or watery for my taste especially towards the middle and the finish. The flavor profile includes dark black and blue color fruits, brambly and herbaceous qualities, with a pretty stony earthy finish. Albeit young, I was a bit disappointed that this wine is not as intense, nuanced or serious as I was anticipating especially approaching the middle portion. An overall decent wine but definitely underwhelming at least this time around. In fact, this wine reminds me of a Bordeaux Superior on an above average vintage with a few years of cellaring time. Perhaps another 5 years will help? We’ll see.
