March 14, 2020 - Pato Baga Tasting (at home): Vertical of four Filipa Pato Bagas: the '15, '16, '17 Nossa Calcario (80+yr vines) and the '17 unoaked, amphora-fermented Post Quercus.

The '15. 12% alcohol. Quietest bouquet on opening but warms to you on day-two, when the seductive red-pepper and licorice, and the minty, earthy notes are revealed under gentle wood.

Stunning on the palate, driven by flavors of small sweet berries and cherries, this seems to change by the minute (as do the other vintages). Crunchy and seductive, the juiciness bursts from the finely-knit, textured fruit. The range of subtle, complex notes are seamless and allusive. Grilled meat. At moments very ripe. Phenomenal texture that just drips over your tongue.

Though lacking the persistent tannins of the ’16, what does linger is beautifully sweet. Incredible with food. And often the most balanced of the three.

These really have me wondering about drinking windows, they're so beautiful today. now- 2027, though I see Mark Squires has it drinking past 2040.
