April 4, 2020 - Medium ruby with a little bit of age on the edges. Light aromas with a little bit of black fruit but actually showing a little more tertiary aromas like leather. Still tight with tannins a bit forward but assume that will diminish with a little more age. Not much fruit flavor or even tertiary flavor. Maybe this is just in a not great period right now and needs some more time.

4/11/20, 11:53 AM - i agree with Adam, half bottle with steak. brown color, thin on edge and in mouth. would have had expected more fruit. hope the next few bottles will be better, just a bit of tannin left.

4/12/20, 2:34 AM - You are absolutely right when you say that GPL 2005 needs more time. I bought my first case of GPL, the 1961, in 1973 and bought GPL up to the 2009 vintage. I can assure you that great vintages of GPL need 30+ years to reveal their full glory. The 1945 and 1961 needed 40 years and the 1982 is far better now than it's ever been after 37 years. If you have a case, try a bottle of the 2005 in 2030.

4/12/20, 5:44 AM - Thanks, Marty and Shrike. I was glad that I tried the 1996 GPL the following night. Feel free to see my note on that. When comparing the 1996 and the 2005, the 1996 had developed much more tertiary aromas/flavors but still displayed the same amount, maybe more, of primary aromas/flavors like black fruit. And the tannins had also faded. Nine years made a big difference and I found the 1996 to be much more interesting.
