Community Tasting Note

  • SLOFred Does not like this wine: 80 points

April 27, 2020 - Another horrible, overpriced, over hyped, Italian red wine. Nothing but tannin when young, no fruit, no body, no flavor when old. Horrible QPR, almost painful to think what I paid for this! At $67, there are dozens of domestic wines I would trade this for. I have 2 more bottles, anyone want them? Clearly there are people in CT who like this stuff.

4/27/20, 3:07 PM - I would love to get rid of them. I paid $67 and I still have 2 bottles left still in the original tissue paper wrapper. Where do you live? I am in SLO, CA.

4/28/20, 1:08 AM - I had a case of this and although it wasn't the best Brunello I've had, it certainly wasn't as you describe. The great thing about wine is that different people have different tastes for different wine. Italian wine clearly is not to your taste so my advice would be to stop buying it!. It sounds and looks like you prefer big, bold fruit driven wines which are more to your taste so I'd maybe stick to these.

4/28/20, 9:12 AM - Not really. I prefer softer, rounder, blends. One of my favorite producers is Tablas Creek in Paso. They produce wonderfully balanced rhone blends. I also like Italian Aglianico and the super Tuscans and Nero d'Avola. Yes, I am shocked at the number of people that like this wine. I wonder what would happen if this wine was poured blindly to many of these people??

4/29/20, 5:10 AM - I've had this wine many times over the years and afraid I don't recognise your comments. It has plenty of fruit and body and is in fact one of, if not the, best value Brunellos going. Tasted blind, it would be fantastic! I think your comments ought to be a little more respectful to those with different tastes to you as clearly you don't like Sangiovese, and that's fine because that's the beauty of wine. It would be boring if we all liked the same thing.

The wine isn't even old and just coming into drinking window, so perhaps you have a duff bottle? Sadly the winery does have the odd QC issue with its corks. Hopefully you can bring yourself to try another bottle.
