May 10, 2020 - Lovely............. 4 hour decant and not too warm when served 14/15 degrees so got to see how it opened up more in the glass as it warmed a little more. Served with traditional English roast beef, Yorkshire puds and all the trimmings. Lots of (the usual left bank) fruit and plenty of structure and depth. The finish is getting longer and longer and as I sit writing this, it is still gently evolving in the glass. I've kept a third of the decanter (popped back down into the cellar) to see what happens in 24 hours so will post a comment tomorrow.

This is bottle number 4 out of my case with the last one opened in 2018. The first two were typical young SM and had a good go at stripping the enamel off my teeth. Number 3 was good and showed great promise (posted on that one) but this is the first great one, albeit still very young and at the start of the window in my opinion. Don't be in a hurry with SM is the morale of the story.

Gave a 93 but I think this will improve much more and here's to the next 8 over the next ten years or so (if I can keep my hands off them).

Note added too after 24 hours. I could smell the fruit as soon as I opened the decanter. This was just as nice after 24 hours, tannins like velvet and some interesting chocolate notes as well. A belter as they say!
