October 31, 2008 - Very big in your face syrah with lots of lush ripe blackberry, blueberry and load of spice and pepper. Very well rounded, well integrated tannins will allow this wine to age for some time and would recommend, thought drinking fairly well now several year of cellaring. I have read that the wine was name Folly because the syrah grapes used for this wine are gown high up on the hillside of a mountain, higher than what conventional wine makers would recommend. It appears the Montes, bucking the trend, have found a very special area to grow these grapes and it shows in this wine. The Folly just goes to show that Montes is on top of their game and is clearly become one the top quality producers in Chile (with the exception of the 2004 Montes M, see my review). While although the 2003 may be a slightly better structured wine the consistency of the Folly is with out question right on.
