June 6, 2020 - What a way to enjoy a Saturday night. Picked up a bottle in an auction recently so figured - hey, we’re in the middle of a pandemic - why not enjoy the finer things. Very happy with my choice of wine, but should have managed the timing of drinking it better. Wine was gorgeous upon opening: beautiful bouquet of caramel, smoke, and currant, and a finish that lasted 30 seconds. But with time in the decanter, it actually lost some of the finish and got a bit too soft. If I had another bottle I would have started drinking after 20-30 minutes in the decanter, as opposed to 2 hours. Overall though - it was a gorgeous wine - a real treat. So, if you pop a bottle, don’t let it sit too long unless you want to lose the finish (not sure why you would). Drink now - it’s probably just a tad past peak - but still brilliant. Enjoy.
