bevetroppo Likes this wine: 90 points
June 23, 2020 - Following two badly corked bottles in a row from an auctioned case I was starting to get worried in more ways than one. Fortunately, Acker cut me a reasonable deal upon complaint, so I felt I could come back to the table with an open mind.
I found Peter Sichel canoeing in a pond at D'Angludet when I went to visit in 1982. That's like the most outrageous namedrop/humble brag in my entire wine-drinking career, but there's a credible backstory we can talk about some other time. Suffice it to say I've had a sweet spot for D'Angludet ever since so the two corked bottles made my heart sore, almost as if it had been wild swans in the pond not a very congenial English gentleman.
Finally, a sound bottle. Pretty cherry color nothing like opaque. Inviting Margaux nose just shy of perfume, but pretty with primary dark cassis fruit and again ripe cherry. Softly textured on the palate with generous impressions of mint and cedary oak. Well integrated and harmonious finish.
Grilled a butterflied leg o' lamb and something said go traditional on the pairing. It was a good call. The tannins were just right and that little hint o'mint could hardly be considered unwelcome.
This wine is still entirely primary as might be expected and the visible drink dates seem reasonable so no reason to quibble. Hopefully those two corked bottles were unlucky exceptions.5 people found this helpful 4,527 views

Now how am I supposed to sleep with that cliffhanger?
I read his book in '18, "The secrets of my life" & did not hear anything about this...could not put that book down.
(Did not read any further than pgh 2...your fault.) -
