Community Tasting Note

June 29, 2020 - Tasted blind, added as a pirate in a large Bordeaux 2010 10 years on tasting (served in an all blind flight along Cheval Blanc, Ausone and Angelus). This is wine held up well against the heavy competition and ended on the shared 10th overall rank (out of 64 wines) with an average rating of 95.4 points. It doesn’t have the complexity of the best wines tasted that night but to my surprise it is so soft, so luxurious, with sex appeal and an incredible precision. Certainly the best Sangiovese I‘ve tried to date (and a much better wine than the bottle I‘ve had a three years ago). Easily 95/96 points, could be even higher when following it over an evening.

TN: At first a slightly muted nose but with time more open with dark and more bright red fruit and some herbs. On the palate sensational with so much high precision red berries, especially strawberries, herbs and some earthy tones. So luxurious, weightless texture, ultra-fine tannins without any edge, good freshness and a very long, red fruit driven finish.

Decanting: Doesn‘t seem to need a long decant. 1 or 2 hours should do the job.

6/29/20, 10:33 AM - "Blind as a pirate?" How blind is a pirate?

Good note - just the lingering pirate mystery.

6/29/20, 11:44 AM - Well, so not only did I learn something today (about a pirate), I also was amused. Thanks for taking the comment in good humor. As to the note, I quite agree with you as I've had this wine 3 or 4 times now and been impressed each time. It's quite lovely. As a pirate, it makes great sense because to me the older Super Tuscans migrate to Bordeaux anyway.
