June 29, 2020 - This was my third go round with this wine. Not much has changed in six months. The wine opens with blueberries and plums on the nose, on the palate , medium bodied mixed red and blue fruits, minerals. Tannins are present but not obtrusive, but the wine finishes abruptly short. Again, was hoping for a bit more pizzazz. Would not put this on the same level as Beckstoffer Crane, despite the fact they are the closest of neighbors. More akin to a Pellet cab. Perhaps more time in the bottle would help the wine become more expressive

7/12/20, 8:51 AM - Thanks for the great, well written review. I’m a big fan of Salvestrin, but haven’t gotten their 2016 CS yet. I find with most of their wines, while drinkable upon release, do much better with a few years in the bottle.

7/12/20, 4:44 PM - thanks. I agree that more time in the bottle might help. I have only had the 2015 and 2016 Crane vineyard. I found the 2015 more expressive.
In general, I have found most 2016 napa cabs to be more drinkable, although I did have a 2016 alpha omega Dr Crane and had a similar impression.

7/13/20, 8:39 AM - Full agreement... so far I'm liking the younger 2016 better then the 2015! I think that bodes very well for the aging of a well made 2016 CS. Time will tell. ;-)

7/13/20, 5:27 PM - any experience with the 3D Dr Crane? It is twice the price, and appears to be from the top barrels. I have seen this wine at my local wine shop, 2014, 2015, and across the river in NJ, the 2016

7/13/20, 11:02 PM - Yes, some experience, but it's typically priced above my Pay Grade. What I've had has always been spectacular, but at twice the price, I don't believe the QPR is as good as their standard CS offering.
