July 18, 2020 - Light medium garnet color turning orange rust at the rim with a transparent edge. The legs show high viscosity which should be consistent with the vintage, and confirmed by the label at 14%. The nose gives off ethereal aromas of dried black and red fruits along with seared meat, mushrooms, and saddle leather. The palate has a sublime mouthfeel with silky tannins and lively acidity that brings out ripe blackberry, raspberry, and cherry notes followed by black olives, tobacco and tea leaves. A gorgeous effort from this producer, and perhaps the best I’ve had from them. Finishes long and fleshy with ultra fine, dusty tannins and hints of eucalyptus menthol. Best to decant as there are plenty of sediments. Drink now with a 40-minute decant or better in 2021 to 2035.
