Community Tasting Note

July 20, 2020 - After reading previous notes, I decanted this for 4 hours before dinner, and believe this improved the experience. First bottle from case bought on release. Tasted initially and the wine was closed and not showing much. After the extended decant, the wine opened up into a beautiful wine showing nose and notes of cassis, plum, dark berries, tobacco, tomato leaf, forest floor and spices. Medium to full bodied and definitely ripe with the tannins still resolving, this wine seems at the beginning of its drinking curve. This is one of those cases that you bought and stored, hoping it would turn into something more than it was, and it did. Isn't that why we cellar these wines? Served with rare filet, this was very well received by the group. Nice.

7/20/20, 11:00 PM - Great note on the '09 Meyney. One of my favorite 2009s and a great price too. I hope the 2018 and 2019 are just as good as the 2009. They use a lot of Petite Verdot at Meyney, which is rather unique. I think Meyney is under-appreciated and remains a great value. You're fortunate to have a case. Enjoy!

7/21/20, 8:20 PM - Hi John, Appreciate the kind words. I still have Meyney in the '86 and '89 vintages, but haven't had anything in between those and the 2009 so it was nice to enjoy it as much as we did.
I see by your profile that you have a lot of wine experience, especially with areas (Bordeaux being an exception) that I don't get to sample too often, so I'm going to add myself to your fan list to help me highlight your notes and help expand my knowledge on these locations. All the best,
    Sante'

7/22/20, 9:48 AM - Hi Rick & Lisa, likewise, just added you as a fan. Congrats on owning some "86 and '89 Meyney; I'm sure they are lovely wines. I am hoping Meyney's '18 is similar to their '09, with a rich profile. We shall see upon release. BTW, Meyney is one of few Bordeaux that I purchase in 375mls formats for earlier consumption along with 750mls for cellaring. Cheers!
